Generic for Actonel* (Risedronate) is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in men and postmenopausal women. It belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It increases bone mass by altering the cycle of bone formation, and thus it reverses bone loss and prevents bone fractures. Risedronate is also used to treat Paget's disease of bone.
