Actonel (Risedronate)

Generic for Actonel is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in men and postmenopausal women. It belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It increases bone mass by altering the cycle of bone formation, and thus it reverses bone loss and prevents bone fractures. Risedronate is also used to treat Paget's disease of bone.

The dosage of Generic Actonel prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

Generic Actonel should be taken right in the morning. Also, this medicine should be taken only in the sitting or standing position. After taking this medicine, you must stay upright for about 30 minutes and do not take any other medicines along with this medicine. Swallow it with one full glass of water only and not with any other drink. Do not chew the tablet.

Missed Dose of Generic for Actonel

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Generic Actonel medication once daily in the morning and you have missed the dose of this medicine, do not take it later on the same day. Instead, take it the next morning. Do not take two pills on one day.

Overdose of Generic for Actonel

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Generic Actonel, seek medical attention immediately. Some of the overdose symptoms of this drug are nausea, tingling sensation, heartburn, convulsions, stomach pain, diarrhea, spasms, and reduction in calcium levels in the blood.

Side Effects of Generic for Actonel

Like other medicines, Generic Actonel can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Generic Actonel are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.
