Lovastatin

Lovastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication, which works by blocking the production of cholesterol in the body. Reducing cholesterol helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. Lovastatin reduces bad cholesterol namely low-density lipoprotein. This medication is usually prescribed in cases in whom cholesterol levels could not be lowered by non-drug treatments such as change in diet, increase in exercise, and losing weight if overweight.

Missed Dose of Lovastatin

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Lovastatin medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.

Overdose of Lovastatin

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Lovastatin, seek medical attention immediately.

Side Effects of Lovastatin

Like other medicines, Lovastatin can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Lovastatin are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

It is pertinent to note that side effects of Lovastatin cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Lovastatin develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.

Lovastatin can cause side effects such as diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, heartburn, insomnia, mild stomach pain, nausea, and constipation. Some of the serious side effects of this drug are yellowing of eyes and skin, difficulty breathing, dark urine, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Usually drug interactions occur when it is taken with another drug or with food.
