    What is Mupirocin used for?

    Mupirocin is an antibiotic ointment used to treat or prevent certain bacterial skin infections such as impetigo. This topical (applied onto the skin) medication works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

    What is the recommended dosage of Mupirocin?

    The dosage of Mupirocin prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label. The following dosage information includes the common dose of Mupirocin. If your dose is different, do not follow the dosage described below unless your physician has approved.

    A small amount of Mupirocin ointment should be applied onto the affected area three times daily. Before applying the medicine, clean and dry the affected area. Wash your hands before and after using this medication.

    What if you miss a dose of Mupirocin?

    If your physician has instructed or directed you to apply Mupirocin medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.
