      Foods that cause acne

Acne is a skin condition caused when hair follicles are blocked due to oil and dead skin cells. This results in whiteheads, blackheads or pimples which are usually seen on the face, upper back, forehead, chest, and shoulders.Certain foods are known to cause or aggravate acne. Find out which they are.

      Whey protein powder

This is a dietary supplement that is very popular and is abundant in amino acids leucine and glutamine. These are known to make skin cells grow and divide more quickly, a factor that may increase the chances of getting acne. They also push the body to produce more insulin and this also increases the incidence of acne.

This has been long suspected to be one of the key culprits in the development of acne. A recent study showed that acne-prone males who took 25 grams of 99% dark chocolate daily had more acne lesions.

      Sugar and carbs

If your diet is chock-a-block with foods and beverages such as soda, white rice, crackers or dessert made from white flour, rice noodles, white bread, and cake. These send a rush of your sugar into your system and then your body has to produce insulin to regulate the sugar level and this also ends up impacting hormones that increase oil production.

      Dairy products

Milk increases insulin levels, and this can make acne worse. This apart, it has amino acids which make the liver increase the production of IGF-1 of acne.

      Omega-6 fats

The typical western diet includes plenty of corn and soy oils that are filled with omega-6 fats but there are just few foods with omega-3 fats, like fish and walnuts that are includes. This imbalance increases inflammation and acne.

Foods that you are sensitive to

Food sensitivity can trigger acne. This happens when your immune system mistakenly considers a particular food as a threat and makes an immune attack against it.
