Can pent up anger shorten your life?
Anger is a negative emotion that can play havoc with your life. Not only can it disturb you mentally it can physically impact you as well. Over time, it may eat away at you or suddenly explode making you feel like you fail to have control over your own life. It can break down your relationships. While many of us would probably have an outburst of anger, there are some who do not openly express it and keep it pent up inside. This leads to a host of problems.
Increases your stress
There are many times that you may control the anger and keep it inside of you, but this whole process is quite unhealthy and stressful. You would probably be replaying the events in your mind and this can get you fuming on the inside. You would end up expressing this as irritability, loss of concentration and so on. You might also start feeling pessimistic towards other things in your life.
The anger makes stress hormones such as adrenaline rush into your system. This goes on to make your blood pressure, heart rate and even your cholesterol level jump.
Disorders that may occur
When you hold plenty of resentment inside you, it can reflect on your physical health in many ways. This includes, eating disorders such as bulimia, Type II diabetes, obesity, addictions such smoking and drinking and sleep disorders.
Holding resentment inside can make you feeling powerless and hopeless. This results in dragging you down mentally and you might find yourself facing depression, mood swings, insomnia, anxiety, and a other mental health issues.
When you have the resentment steadily building up inside you, it’s bound to burst out one day. This can terribly impact your relationships and even lead to damaging or breaking them.
