Can baking soda better your health?
Baking soda is that white powder that usually lies in a corner of your kitchen until you decide to bake muffins or pies. However, besides being a leavening agent, it offers many health benefits too.
Baking soda works as a natural antacid
Acid reflux is quite common and this happens when stomach acid flows from the stomach and runs back into the oesophagus. This can irritate the oesophagus and cause heart burn which basically is the burning feeling that you might face anywhere in between the abdomen and throat. Baking soda is a neutralizing agent and functions by neutralizing the stomach acid and relieving heart burn.
Improves kidney function
Baking soda is alkaline in nature and decreases the acid levels in the body which in turn controls the pH levels.
Good for gout and joint problems
When the body has high levels of uric acid in the urine and in the blood tissues, this will not only cause pain but also chronic diseases such as arthritis and gout. Baking soda is a great way to neutralize the excess acid and this helps in removing the problem.
Helps clear urinary tract infections
Urinary tract infection is a common complaint for many women. Using a solution of baking soda and water will work as a protective barrier and prevent urinary tract infections. This is possible as it can bring down acid levels in urine.
Fights bad breath and cavities
Research has proved that baking soda is indeed a great way to fight bad breath and also bring down the risk of cavities. In fact, some toothpastes even use baking soda as an ingredient. A paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide used to brush the teeth can whiten them. However, this can be harsh if over-used. Use it for 3 days and then only after 6 months.
