      Tips to reduce chronic pain

There are various reasons that one may suffer from chronic pain, there’s the post-workout pain, aging, nerve damage, injuries that may not have healed properly and so on. However, you need not fret, here are some useful tips to relieve chronic pain.

      Quit smoking

There are many smokers who feel that smoking helps them cope with pain, this does help short-term but in the long run, it can create a host of diverse problems. It not only increases pain, it results in poor blood circulation and increases the risk of getting degenerative disc problems.

      Nourish yourself well

Eating a nutritious and balanced diet gives you overall good health and strength. Try to eat a variety of vegetables and fruits. Choose to eat fresh produce, low-fat proteins, and whole grains.

      Give yourself time

Don’t push yourself too hard. Give your body and mind enough time to relax. This means not saying ‘yes’ to every event that comes your way, skip a party if you feel that you need rest instead. Go for a massage, read a book, listen to music, each one finds a different thing soothing.

      Distract yourself from pain

Go for some activity or hobby that you like. Take a new class, join a gym or make new friends. These are things that can help you focus on other things beside the pain.

      Understand your medication

Know why a particular medication is being prescribed and learn how it helps you. See how it affects your pain and mood. Discuss with your doctor if you are uncomfortable with a medication. Keep a journal recording your pain and the levels of pain that you face. This will be helpful when you consult your doctor.

      Plan your day ahead

Good planning will help you stay away from getting stressed. You can space out your daily schedule so that you get adequate rest.
