Cloves have a strong taste and smell and are used ground in cooking. They are quite versatile and can be used to season pot roasts to cookies and cakes. They offer a host of health benefits.

      Rich in nutrients

The clove may look small, but it’s packed with powerful nutrients.  2 grams of ground cloves contain just  21 calories besides 1 gram of carbs and fiber each. Manganese, Vitamins K & C are also present. Small quantities of calcium, magnesium and Vitamin E are also available.

      Boost your digestion

When you use cloves in your cooking, it not only brings in a rich flavor to your food, it also boosts digestion. They also help to relieve vomiting, diarrhea, intestinal gas and stomachaches. However, do not get carried away and overdo it with cloves as they can irritate the stomach as well.

      Better liver health

The compound eugenol found in cloves is good for the liver. In fact, research has discovered that this has even reversed signs of liver cirrhosis or scarring of the liver. Since these are rich in antioxidants, they help to stave away liver disease.

Cloves have anti-carcinogenic properties. A study that was published in the Oxford Journal: Carcinogenesis states that they are useful on controlling lung cancer at its early stages.

      Kills bacteria

Clove has very good antimicrobial properties.  It has been proved that clove essential oil effectively kills three common types of bacteria including E. coli, a type of bacteria that can cause cramps, diarrhea, fatigue and even death. This is also very good for oral health. Just dab a little clove oil on a cotton ball and apply it on a sore tooth or gums to relieve pain.

      Better bone health

Cloves can improve bone health as they help preserve bone mass and prevent the problem of developing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis makes the bones brittle and increase the risk of breaks and fractures.
