Constipated? These foods could be the culprit!
Constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal problems in the United States. When you are constipated, you may end up with few bowel movements, have trouble with bowel movement, experience belly bloating, have hard or small stools and have a feeling that all did not come out. Here are some every day foods that could turn out to be the culprits.
Most of us love fried food and can’t pass up that delicious fried chicken easily! However, fried foods have a lot of fat making them difficult to digest. As they move through the colon, a lot of water gets drained making for a hard and dry stool.
Eggs are rich in protein but low in fiber. However, you don’t have to panic and take eggs off your menu! Just make sure you mix in a bit of fiber to the egg such as spinach or tomatoes.
Pastries, cookies and cakes
Reserve these goodies only for occasions, especially if you have a problem with constipation. Pastries, cookies, cakes and similar treats use a lot of refined sugar and tend to be low in fiber and fluids but high in fat. Go for strawberries or yogurt instead.
For some people, caffeine can make them take a trip to the bathroom, but this may not work for everyone. For some caffeine in coffee and beverages can leave them constipated.
Milk and dairy products
For many people, milk and dairy products can be a cause for constipation. Cheese and ice-cream are especially worse. The reason could be the high fat, low fiber content.
Red meat as such does not cause constipation but the tendency for most of us is that it replaces other fiber-rich options. It’s also high in fat and this makes it very difficult to digest.
