Do people in relationships gain more weight?

This is an interesting question, let facts tell the story. Research has found that over three-quarters of Americans in relationships have extra weight. Studies have found that they gained an average of 36 pounds since their romance started.

Another interesting fact is that men tend to gain more weight in relationships on an average when compared to women.  69 percent of men started putting on weight compared to a mere 45 percent of women.

Key causes of weight gain in relationships

When the causes for weight gain were analyzed, the top-most reason that came up was that as a couple, there was the tendency to eat out more often and naturally this translated to more weight gain. As the relationship got stronger and more comfortable, many settled into a sense of complacency about maintaining the body. Some married people state that it’s marriage that made them pile on the pounds as their busy schedule resulted in ordering more of take-outs.

When you are in a relationship, you want to spend the maximum time with your partner. The result is that exercise does tend to be put on the backburner.  Sometimes people face stress in your relationship, when it hits a bumpy patch, they tend to comfort themselves by eating and the result is weight gain.

How to handle relationship weight gain?

The solution is to stay conscious that not being aware of your food and lifestyle habits could result in overweight and obesity. Try and spend some time exercising together with each other. Create quality time as you undertake a fitness activity, go for walks together or cycle together. Plan healthy meals and cook them together. Motivate yourself to exercise not because you just want to look good but also that you and your partner should live healthier and longer.
