How can you get rid of dark spots?

The process of chemical peeling includes applying a chemical solution to the skin which works by exfoliating the skin and generating new skin growth. This may lead to a gradual fading of the dark spots.
These do not produce instant results but over a period of several months. They bleach the skin and work by stopping the skin from producing melanin. Hydroquinone is the active ingredient here and works by preventing the skin from producing melanin.
There are OTC creams that claim to clear dark spots but they are not as powerful as prescription creams. Creams and serums are made from various active ingredients such as retinol or alpha hydroxy acid, which are expected to speed up the exfoliation process and promote new skin growth.
Cryotherapy works on dark patches by an application of liquid nitrogen to freeze them and this injures the skin cells. Later, the skin heals lighter.
Cosmetics may not help in actually clearing dark spots but can cover them up. A cream-based concealer decreases their visibility.
