Smart ways to detox your liver

Extensive drinking can damage your liver. However, no matter what, sometimes, there are those reckless nights where you do go a bit overboard. Here’s how to show some love to your liver and help it detox. While there are medicines that can help you detox, here are some things you can do to help as well.

      Up your coffee

We are sure you will love this news, your liver loves good old caffeinated coffee! Research has shown that coffee cuts down the risk of Liver Disease by over 70%. A study done in 2016 on a group of over 430,000 people revealed that drinking a cup of coffee a day brings down the risk of liver disease by 22%.

      Use foods to detox

Make some changes to your lifestyle. Instead of sugary sodas, switch to green tea and water. Add some anti-inflammatory spices and herbs like turmeric and ginger to cooking. Introduce more of cruciferous vegetables such as kale, cauliflower and brussels sprouts to your meals. These will help your liver break down the chemicals and hormones.  The traditional Chinese hangover cure consists of taking a concoction of ginger, tangerine citrus and brown sugar before drinking as it helps quell the nausea.

      Avoid stressing your liver

It’s not just alcohol that has highly damaging consequences for your liver, a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet are big enemies too as these factors can make fat build up around your liver. Learn to eat in moderation. Intravenous drugs are also harmful to the liver, avoid them.

      Cut down on booze

The good news is that often liver damage is reversible provided if you cut out the cause, usually alcohol. So, go slow on the booze. To cut down the amount you drink, always measure it out, so you can keep track.

      Get professional help

When it comes to liver detox drugs, it’s best to consult your doctor as this can never be a one-size-fits-all approach. The kind of toxins that each person has could be different and the way one reacts as well.
