Junk foods disguised as health foods
Many times, we tend to pick up foods thinking that they are healthy for us but they actually are not. Here are some junk foods that come disguised as ‘health foods’. Here’s a look at some of them.
Commercial salad dressings
Fresh vegetables are good eaten on their own. However, most people find it difficult to handle their taste and add on dressings to improve the taste. Most commercial salad dressings are filled with unhealthy ingredients such as sugar, vegetable oils and trans fats besides plenty of artificial chemicals.
Most of us assume fruit juices are healthy! However, most of the so-called fruit juices on supermarket racks are mostly made of chemicals with very little fruit content if any. Even if its 100% fruit juice, this still lacks much nutrition value as the fiber is removed and what you mostly get is sugar.
Whole wheat has been touted as heart-healthy. However, most of the products that claim to be made from whole wheat are not really made from whole wheat. Whole wheat bread has been made from such pulverized flour that it will make blood sugar increase as fast as its refined peers.
These were made for athletes and there is no reason that the average person needs to take them. These are filled with electrolytes (salts) and sugar and for the normal person, these additional ingredients are definitely unnecessary and unhealthy.
Many people look for substitutes to unhealthy sugar. Agave nectar is an ingredient that is being promoted as a healthy ‘natural’ sweetener. However, this is not better than sugar in any way and in fact worse than it! The issue with sugar is that it contains excessive fructose which can cause metabolic problems. While sugar has a fructose content of 50%, agave nectar may have even 70% to 90%.
