Elder Pharma ties up with Swiss major TRB Chem

      Posted AtIndian Business Standard

The Rs 300 crore company, Elder Pharmaceuticals, has signed a strategic marketing alliance with the Swiss pharma major TRB Chemedica to introduce a new range of osteoarthritis and pain management drugs in India.

This tie-up would enable the Mumbai-based company to make a foray into this therapeutic segment in India, as part of its business model based on strategic marketing alliances for launching new products in the market.

With the strategic alliance with TRB, a market leader in the osteoarthritis segment in the European market, Elder would be licensed to manufacture one of the leading brands of the former Artrodar in India.

Since the drug belongs to TRB's patented portfolio, the raw material bulk will be imported from Switzerland.

However, Elder would have the right of the formulation technology in India, the company sources said. Elder will launch the product in India shortly.

TRB Chemedica is a 20-year-old multinational pharmaceutical group headquartered in Vouvry, Switzerland. The therapeutic focus of the group is rheumatology, ophthalmology and neurology. The company currently markets 15 products "both ethical pharmaceuticals and medical devices " which are licensed and sold in more than 40 countries worldwide.

In addition to a number of innovative pharmaceutical compounds in key market segments, the group has vast experience and specialisation in patented products based on sodium hyaluronate. TRB's manufacturing activities include the production of pharma raw materials, pharma finished products and medical devices.

The manufacturing facilities of the group are based in Vouvry, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. TRB employs over 500 people worldwide with its sales operations in Argentina, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico, Switzerland, Thailand and the UK.

Early this year, Elder Pharma had signed a similar arrangement with the US pharma multinational Eli Lilly & Company for the rights of an anti-infective drug under the brand, Tobraneg, with regard to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The company is already manufacturing and marketing this product in India.
