      Posted Atexaminer.com

FDA has approved Gardasil HPV vaccine for the prevention of anal cancer in men and women aged 9 through 26 years. Gardasil is already approved for preventing cervical , vaginal and vulvar cancers in women, and also for preventing genital warts in men and women.

Human papillomavirus is sexually transmitted and the most common cause of genital warts. HPV also causes several cancers. HPV vaccine cannot prevent cancer in men and women already infected with the virus.

Cases of anal cancer have been steadily increasing in the U.S especially in men who have sex with men.
