      How do you choose healthy protein?

      Protein is vital to good health as it gives you the energy to keep going. It’s important for growing children as it AIDS development and for seniors to maintain their health. It boosts the immune system, improves mood, helps prevent depression and anxiety. However, going overboard on protein can be disastrous as well, we teach you how to choose healthy protein.

      Fish

      When it comes to healthy protein, most types of seafood are high in protein and low in saturated fat. Besides this, fish like sardines, anchovies, salmon, trout, sablefish (black cod), and herring are abundant in omega-3 fatty acids. It’s good to consume seafood at least twice a week.

      Lean Ground Beef

      Lean ground beef can deliver high-quality protein and you need not even consume much. 3 ounces of this contains 22 grams of protein besides iron, zinc and vitamin B12.

      Poultry

      While cooking poultry such as chicken or turkey, remove the skin, this removes most of the saturated fat. As far as possible, try to choose organic or free-range poultry.

      Nuts and seeds

      These healthy snacks are not just rich in protein but also fiber and other Vitamins. Add them on to salads as well to give it a crunchy feel.  Natural peanut or almond butters are also great to go with your morning toast.

      Tofu and soy foods

      This is one of the best vegetarian sources of healthy protein. 1/2 cup of tofu for instanced provides 8 - 10 grams of protein. 1 cup of edamame provides 17 grams.

      Dairy Products

      Skim milk, cheese, and yoghurt are rich in healthy protein. However, stay careful around added sugar in low-fat yoghurts and flavored milk, though. Avoid processed cheese as this often has non-dairy ingredients.

      Beans & Peas

      Both these veggies are filled with protein and fiber. To add to your protein intake, include them in salads, soups and stews.

      Eggs

      Eggs are low in calories, just 70 calories per egg and this provides 6 grams of protein.
