Forgetting things frequently? Try these tips.

All of us have these tip-of-the-tongue moments when we want to say something but forget. Here are some great tips to jog your memory and keep it sharp. A good diet, adequate sleep and activities to stimulate the brain are important.

Make sure you have a good breakfast

Never skip breakfast and try to include some brain boosting food into breakfast. Berries, nuts, olive oil, veggies and fish are known to power up the brain cells and prevent cognitive decline. A simple act like topping up your yogurt with walnuts or adding berries to your cereal can make a huge difference. Eggs become better for your brain when made with olive oil. Make sure you eat a healthy diet every day.

      Get organized

A cluttered house is more likely to make you suffer from memory loss. Jot down things you need to do in a notebook or on a digital format like your mobile phone or laptop.

      Get a good night’s sleep

Sleep is essential for the brain to effectively store information. Every adult needs seven to nine hours of sleep every day. Make sleep a priority.

      Manage chronic illnesses well

If you have chronic conditions such as depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and hearing loss, take good care and keep these under control. This will also play a role in how good your memory is. Do review your medications with your doctor on a regular basis, some of them can cause memory loss.

      Stay physically and mentally active

Physical activity stimulates the blood flow to the entire body and this includes the brain too. Keep your brain in good shape too by regularly indulging in activities that boost the brain such as solving crosswords, playing bridge, learning a new language, learning to play a musical instrument and so on.
