How to get rid of gas in the stomach

Gas is a normal part of our digestive processes and the average human passes gas between 13 and 21 times a day. However, if this gets stuck in the intestines, it causes problems such as bloating, pain and discomfort. Here are some ways to get rid of this. Constipation and diarrhea can cause gas problems, besides swallowing air while eating or drinking, overeating, chewing gum, particular foods and smoking cigarettes.

      Peppermint tea

Peppermint tea or supplements with peppermint help bring down irritable bowel syndrome symptoms and also clear gas. However, consult your doctor before you take any supplements because they can sometimes affect iron absorption. The best time to take peppermint tea is to drink one cup before each meal.

      Chamomile tea

This is also a great way to boost digestion and clear trapped gas and bloating. Drinking chamomile tea before your meals and at bedtime can bring down these problems.

Foods that can cause gas problems

These include cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower, dairy products, artificial sweeteners, fiber drinks and supplements, legumes, garlic and onions, high fat foods, spicy foods, prunes and prune juice.

      Clove oil

This has been known for ages as a cure for digestive problems such as bloating, gas and indigestion. It may even fight ulcers. Take clove oil post meals to help increase digestive enzymes and bring down the level of gas in the intestines.

      Eating tips

Sit down while eating. Eat slowly and make sure you chew well. Do not chew gum and avoid using straws. Try to keep gas creating foods out of your diet. Make it a point to avoid carbonated beverages and soda.

Staying active helps in eliminating trapped gas. Walk after meals as this will help prevent gas formation. In case, you suffer from gas pain, jumping rope, running, or walking can help in expelling it.
