How do you get rid of heartburn?
Heartburn is quite a common problem. It consists of a burning feeling in the chest which takes place just behind the chest bone. It happens after eating and can last anywhere from a few minutes to hours. There could even be chest pain after bending over, lying down or eating.
Loosen up clothing
Sometimes tight clothing that compresses your chest can result in heartburn. To get rid of this, you must loosen your clothes.
Do elevate the upper body
Lying down flat can make things worse when you have heartburn. Adjust your sleeping position in such a way that your upper body is raised. Prop it up with pillows or if you have an adjustable bed, adjust it in such a way that your upper body stays raised.
Use baking soda and water
Mix a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink it slowly.
OTC drugs for heartburn
Antacids can help but make sure you take them as directed by your doctor. In case, you are taking tablets, chew them well to get faster relief. Other OTC drugs that cut down on the production of acid in the stomach are histamine antagonists also known as H2 antagonists or H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
When you are overweight, this puts a lot of pressure in all internal organs. This can make the valve between your stomach and esophagus loose, allowing acid to escape.
Go for ginger
Ginger has been a well-known natural remedy for heartburn for many centuries. Go for ginger tea, you can also add grated pieces of ginger root to your cooking, it works well with soups and stir-fried food.
Apple cider vinegar
Dilute some apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it after a meal. This works to relieve acid reflux for some.
