      Add these healthy fats to your diet

      The word fat has become a negative word for many. However, the fact is that our body requires a certain amount of fat to help hormone function, memory besides absorption of specific nutrients. So, it’s important to include healthy fats in the diet especially monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

      Go avocado

      This is filled with healthy fats specifically monounsaturated fats and these improve good cholesterol levels and should be a part of a heart-healthy diet. Most fruits have a lot of carbs but avocados are loaded with 77% fat. They are very rich in potassium and fiber.

      Choose nuts and seeds

      Most of the nuts and seeds are rich in healthy fats that are good for the heart. Walnuts and almonds are considered the best amongst these. However, make sure they are not salted or fried. Flaxseeds contain healthy fats that increase the levels of goof cholesterol. You can sprinkle these on to salads, soups or yogurt or even bake them into muffins.


      Eggs have received bad press as the yolks are full of fat and cholesterol. However, surprisingly, the latest studies reveal that cholesterol in eggs does not impact cholesterol in the blood in most people. This is filled with vitamins and minerals.


      Olives are a staple of the Mediterranean diet and you can make this a healthy addition to plenty of your meals. They are rich in monounsaturated fat. They taste great in salads or snacks. Make it a point to also cook using olive oil as far as possible.

      Fatty fish

      These are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats are known to brings down the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol. Salmon, tuna, trout, and Atlantic or Pacific mackerel are good choices. Grill, bake or broil these and enjoy them.

      Dark chocolate

      This is news that you will love. It not only has healthy fat, it also contains 11% fiber and fulfils over 50% of the RDA for iron, magnesium, copper and manganese. This is also rich in antioxidants and also makes the brain function better.
