      Lionbridge to ramp up Indian facilities

      CHENNAI: With an anticipated increase in offshore business, Lionbridge Technologies Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of US-based Lionbridge Technologies Inc is expected to ramp up its facilities in India and is likely hire over 2,000 people in the next two years.

      "India is the fastest growing market and is the back office for Lionbridge operations. It is central to our growth plans and we are bullish on growth prospects here," Vice President and General Manager, Lionbridge Technologies Pvt Ltd, Mr Jay Sitaram sai d.

      He said that Lionbridge Inc's recent acquisition of Bowne Global Solutions (BGS) could mean increased outsourcing business for the Indian centres. "Anything we do in India would now increase by twice," he said.

      "We have currently 2,200 employees worldwide and after the BGS acquisition (a deal of at least $180 million) the total number of employees would increase to 4,000. Of this, we have 1,100 employees in India, which will increase two-three fold in the next two years," he said.

      Lionbridge, which has been operating in India over the last five years, has solution centres in Mumbai and Chennai. "With an expected increase in offshore business, we may have to ramp up the existing facilities to over 2,200 seats from the present 1,600 plus seats," he said.

      The Chennai Centre inaugurated in April and providing quality assurance and software testing services will be scaled up to 800 from the present 75. - PTI
