      Do you know the foods your liver loves?

      The liver is an important organ in our body and performs a whopping 500 functions! It’s the largest internal organ as well and keeping it healthy is important. Here are some foods that are really good for the liver.


      This is rich in Vitamin C and other antioxidants which bring down inflammation and protect the liver from damage. Research studies also found that this has improved liver function in patients who had nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NFLD).


      This is a fruit that’s good for overall health and is versatile enough to use in many dishes. It has a healthy fat content and contains plenty for fiber. It’s also rich in Glutathione, a compound that clears harmful toxins from the body. Avocado also has been proven to reduce liver damage.


      Garlic is a friend of your liver as it helps to activate enzymes that flush out toxins from the body. This is also rich in allicin and selenium which are naturally occurring compounds that aid in cleaning the liver.

      Olive oil

      Extra virgin olive oil has been known to reverse nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. It contains a compound called hydroxytyrosol which a polyphenol with antioxidant properties and this works to protect the liver.

      Fatty fish

      Fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, tuna and trout are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These are great to maintain enzyme levels, improve liver fat levels and reduce inflammation.

      Lemons and limes

      These citrus fruits are a must have in your diet. A research study published in the journal, “Plants Consumption and Liver Health” states that these reduce liver damage. These are best taken early in the morning as they help to stimulate the liver.

      Cruciferous veggies

      Brussels sprouts and broccoli sprout extract are good for the liver and up the detoxification enzymes. They also have a protective effect on the liver keeping it safe from damage. Roast these veggies lightly with garlic and lemon juice or balsamic vinegar, this makes a delicious and healthy dish.


      Walnuts are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and these help those with fatty liver disease. This is also rich in arginine which helps the liver clear out ammonia and glutathione which cleans up many toxins.
