Surprising reasons you are losing hair
Hair loss is quite upsetting for anyone. Most of us might blame the common causes such as stress, chemicals, pollution and so on, here are some surprising reasons why you are losing hair and you may not even be aware of these.
If you have had bariatric surgery, one of the after effects could be hair fall. Usually, your doctor would recommend a zinc supplement.
Medication & birth control
Hormonal birth control options such as oral contraceptives, injections, vaginal rings, implants, and patches can result in hair loss. Ask your doctor for non-hormonal options. Ironically, when you quit birth control, you may lose hair too! Certain medications that you take for blood thinning, depression, gout, heart problems, acne, anabolic steroids, arthritis or high blood pressure can lead to hair fall.
Being harsh on your hair
Hair styling tools such as blow-dryers, flat irons, and curling irons tend to dry out your hair and this makes them break and fall out more easily. Besides this, the chemicals prevalent in bleach, dye, relaxers, and hair sprays may also result in causing hair loss. Bad hair habits such as using too much shampoo on your hair, brushing too hard, brushing or combing your hair while it’s wet or rubbing your hair dry with a towel can make your hair break and fall out easily.
Lack of protein or iron
When your body suffers from a lack of protein, it will try to conserve it. The result is that it will halt hair growth. To combat this, add more meat, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, and beans to your meals. Low iron can also result in hair loss.
Post-pregnancy and menopause
While pregnant, the hormones prevent the normal hair fall and this keeps hair looking shiny and thick but post-pregnancy, the extra hair is shed. Hair loss that occurs during menopause is due to hormonal imbalance.
