      Give your lung capacity a big boost!

      Making your lungs strong and healthy gives your body more oxygen. To keep oxygen flowing through your body at peak level, just normal breathing is not enough. We tell you how to increase your lung capacity with these simple exercises.

      Breathing exercises

      There is a wide array of breathing exercises that help make your lungs healthier. Try deep breathing. First, slowly inhale and then expand your stomach staying aware of lowering the diaphragm. After this, expand your ribs and let the floating ribs open like wings. Finally, let the upper chest expand and lift. Post this, make sure you exhale as completely as possible. As you start getting regular with this, increase the count of your inhalations and exhalations.

      Try diaphragmatic breathing. Concentrate on lowering your diaphragm as you breathe in, this gives you a deeper inhale.

      Stop smoking

      Smoking can cause a lot of damage to your lungs. In fact, it’s responsible for many lung ailments ranging from respiratory disease to lung cancer. This affects your lung capacity greatly.

      Consume enough Vitamin D

      Higher levels of Vitamin D improve lung function. Popularly known as the sunshine vitamin, you can simply get this by standing under the sun for a while during summer. It’s also found in egg yolks, red meat and oily fish.

      Maintain good air quality at home
