Our modern lifestyle is so hectic that we are running from one task to another. From the moment you wake up, you are busy ticking of things from your to-do list. Ultimately, this generates quite a bit of stress and it’s not the best for your state of mind. Here are some of the best tips and tricks to help calm your mind and improve the quality of your life.
Switch on the music
Listening to soothing music such as natural sounds like the babbling of the brook can help. Make a playlist of songs without lyrics that uplift the mood for the morning and soft, slow music for the evenings. It has been proved that music calms down the neurotransmitters in the brain.
When you breathe from the diaphragm it helps you calm down and draw in more oxygen. To breathe right, keep your hands on your stomach and feel it rising and expanding when you draw your breath in, then fall when you breathe out. Inhale to the count of four, then hold your breath for three, and exhale to the count of six. This method will slow down your breath, bring down your heart rate and quieten your mind.
Start an exercise regimen
If you have not been into active exercise, it might be initially tough to start an exercise regimen but once you get into the routine, you will find that it works wonders to relax and destress you. A long, brisk walk, an intense workout, yoga and so on are all ways to unplug from your thoughts and focus on something else.
Disconnect from your gadgets
Put your phone, tablet and laptop away. Today, we are constantly available to others via phone calls and social media. This keeps a constant stream of chatter coming our way and this can be exhausting.
While doing a particular task that takes a long time, go in for short breaks that help to refresh you. When you break up tasks, you feel motivated and function much better as your mind gains greater clarity.
