What you must not wear on a flight

While flying, make sure that you are comfortable and enjoy the journey. The clothes and accessories you wear make a lot of difference. The experts tell us the best way to dress for the journey.

      Avoid tight clothes

While flying the body tends to swell naturally. Therefore, avoid wearing tight shirts, waistbands, skirts, and blouses. Wearing comfortable clothes helps. This promotes healthy blood circulation and prevents deep vein thrombosis or blood clots in the legs. Go for elastic waists, these will keep you comfortable. Leggings or stylish sweats are also a good choice.

      Skimpy clothes

These are not a great idea simply because the air-conditioning can get really cold after a point and you don’t want to feel like you’re freezing! In case of emergencies such as a fire or evacuation, being covered well is definitely an advantage, going down a slide on bare skin is not easy. Certain countries frown upon skimpy clothes as well.

      Bulky jackets

Never wear bulky jackets or oversized coats when you fly. These are tough to stuff into the overhead cabin as well. Instead, invest in an all-season jacket that’s lightweight.

      Choose the right shoes

High heels are not a good idea on an aircraft. In case of an evacuation, they are likely to slow you down and may even puncture the slide. Slides and flip flop are not a great idea either as both may fly off your feet during an emergency. Lace-up shoes work well as you can tighten or loosen them as required. It also protects your feet from the myriad germs at airports.

      Go for natural fabrics

Natural fabrics like cotton, silk, wool, or linen are ideal for flying as they allow air circulation and let moisture to pass through. Avoid extremely flammable synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon. This is a move that may even save your life! For instance, in an air crash, usually fires start post the crash and these fibers make it easier for you to catch fire.
