Those with chronic pain have found that certain foods have the capacity to increase pain. For instance, those with migraines have found that foods such as cheese and red wine could actually end up triggering them. In the same way, milk or fatty meat increases the incidence of inflammatory arthritis for some. Maintain a food diary and identify how foods affect your pain.

      Distract your mind

When you have pain, making your mind think of something else can relieve it. Keep your mind busy with a crossword puzzle, painting, speaking to someone, reading a book and so on.

      Go for deep breathing

Breathe deeply and slowly for a minute. Repeat this for a few minutes and you will find the tension draining away.

      Take supplements

Certain supplements can help you with daily pain, check with your physician. Fish oil, glucosamine, chondroiton sulfate and SAMe for instance have proved to alleviate stiff, painful joints due to arthritis.

Going in for physical and occupational therapy can make a qualitative change in your life. Physical therapy helps you gain strength and mobility. Occupational therapy works with your limitations and helps you manage things better with pain, for instance you would learn a new way to button up or make dinner.
