      How do you quit smoking?

      All of us know that smoking is bad for health and quitting it can be a tough experience as it’s not just addictive but also a psychological habit. Some of the nicotine ends up staying in the body for very long, two hours after smoking only half the nicotine gets cleared from the blood. Here are some tips to help you quit the butt.

      Avoid triggers

      There are certain occasions and situations that may trigger the desire to smoke, here’s how to cope. Many have a tendency to smoke when they drink. To beat this problem, snack on nuts or try chewing on a cocktail stick. When there are smokers around you, it can be tough to fight the craving. Tell your smoking friends about your decision to quit smoking. Try to spend your coffee breaks at work with non-smokers or do something else like taking a walk.

      How to handle cravings

      Keep some other oral substitute on hand sunflower seeds, mint, chewing gum, carrot sticks and so on. Engage your mind in activities such as reading, music or playing an online game. Visit a place where smoking is not permitted, a store, mall, public building, coffee shop for instance. Get active, try out a few yoga poses, jumping jacks or play a sport. When you feel like lighting up, light up something else, this could be a candle or incense.

      Brush your teeth, this is quite an effective way to get rid of the craving. Sip on a large glass of water slowly, this will help you stave away the craving.

      What and how you eat matters

      Go in for nutritious food, especially a lot of fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. Skip sugary foods, soda, unhealthy snacks, fried food and convenience food. When you eat, eat mindfully. Make sure that you are not eating emotionally. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water as this will keep you feeling full and also flush out toxins from the body.
