      What are the best foods for your skin?

      All of us want clear, glowing skin. While we usually turn to the quick-fix of creams and beauty potions, we forget that a lot depends on how we nourish it from the inside with a healthy diet. Here’s a look at some of the best foods to feed the skin.

      Broccoli

      Broccoli is chock-a-block with nutrients and minerals that are important for skin health. This includes zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C. It also contains lutein which is a carotenoid and protects skin from oxidative damage that leads to dry and wrinkled skin. It also contains sulforaphane which protects against sun damage.

      Red or yellow bell peppers

      Bell peppers are very good for the skin as they are a good source of beta-carotene and this is converted into Vitamin A in your body. This is also one of the best sources of Vitamin C which is important to creating collagen that keeps skin firm and strong.

      Avocados

      Avocados are full of healthy fats and these keep your skin flexible and well-moisturized.  Research has also shown that these contain certain compounds that work to prevent skin from getting damaged by the sun and thus help in preventing wrinkles and aging. It also contains plenty of Vitamin E that prevents oxidative damage to the skin.

      Sunflower seeds

      These are full of Vitamin E which your skin will love. This is an important antioxidant.

      Tomatoes

      Tomatoes are rich in beta-carotene, lutein and lycopene which are key to protecting the skin from sun damage. They may also help in preventing wrinkles. Having tomatoes with fat such as cheese or olive oil increases the absorption.

      Soy

      Soy is a good source of isoflavones which protect the cells in the body from damage and protect the skin from sun damage.  A study done on middle-aged Women showed that having a diet of soy every day for 8–12 weeks brought down fine wrinkles and improved skin elasticity.
