New to fitness? Here’s how to start
To stay healthy, it’s important that each of us are fit. There is that one day that each of us decide to wake up and get fit but don’t know how to. We may end up straining ourselves too much and then give up. Here’s how to get fit without the hiccups.
Make small goals
You can’t become a superstar athlete or master fitness overnight. Stay realistic, make small goals. For instance, say you have big goal like losing 20 kgs of weight. Split it into losing a few kgs every month and work towards achieving this by exercising or some sports activity every day.
When you work out, make sure your attire is comfortable and fits well. Go for clothes in fabric that takes moisture away from your body and not fabric like cotton that absorbs sweat.
Drink plenty of water and skip those sports drinks. Two hours before you begin your exercise regimen, ensure that you gulp down two to three cups of water.
Before every workout, go for carbs such as juice, yogurt or fruit. In case, you have taken up a long, tough workout, make sure you rejuvenate your body with some kind of a carb and protein mix such as a peanut butter sandwich or a smoothie. Other than this, make sure your meals are light and nutritious.
Go for strength training
When your muscles are strong, this helps you burn up more calories, prevent injuries, and build stronger bones. Go in for exercises that involve weight machines using hand-held equipment such as free weights, kettlebells, or resistance bands. Make sure you add in exercises like push-ups. You must also make sure that each muscle group, such as biceps and triceps get to rest at least 2 days between strength workouts.
