Get the best foods for your teeth!

Keeping your teeth healthy and sparkling is all about keeping them clean and eating the right foods. Eating too much of sugary foods like pastries, soda and candy can lead to tooth decay. Avoid them and pile on the foods that are good for the teeth.

If you are a cheese lover, here’s good news. Cheese requires quite a bit of chewing and this increases the saliva in the mouth. It also has calcium and protein which are nutrients that play a key role in strengthening the tooth enamel.

You’ll be surprised to know that tea can do a whole lot of good to your teeth. Compounds known as polyphenols are abundant in black and green teas. These have been shown to slow the growth of bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease.

      Leafy greens

These are filled with vitamins and minerals and yet are low on calories. They contain calcium which strengthens tooth enamel and folic acid that helps in treating gum disease in pregnant women. You can add these to your diet in many easy ways, top them on to pizzas, toss them into soups and salads or even add them to a smoothie.

      Apples & carrots

Eating an apple increases the quantity of saliva in the teeth and this gets rid of bacteria and food particles by washing them away. The fruit has a fibrous texture, and this is good for the gums.  Carrots are also rich in fiber and increase saliva production which cuts down the risk of cavities.

This might be quite a bland vegetable but when it comes to caring for your teeth, it’s quite amazing. It works like a toothbrush and removes food particles and bacteria from the teeth. It’s also rich in Vitamins A and C which are good antioxidants that pep up your gums.
