Top tips for great looking teeth
A good smile gives you confidence. Here’s the recipe to keep your teeth healthy and sparkling. A little care every day is all it takes to keep your pearlies happy. Make sure that you go for dental visits regularly as well.
Brush and floss regularly
You must brush your teeth at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. This is vital since the night plaque is likely to form. Brushing after every meal is a good idea too. Make sure you floss daily and also clean your tongue every day.
Replace your toothbrush regularly
Many of us are guilty of using old, frayed toothbrushes. If you are using a manual toothbrush, make sure that you replace it at least once every three or four months. For electric toothbrush heads, simply follow the instructions of the manufacturer.
Add cheese to your diet
Cheese is rich in calcium which is needed to build teeth. The casein and whey protein in cheese strengthen your tooth enamel and maintain it in good condition by reducing demineralization. Make sure that you also have adequate Vitamin D in your diet as this will increase the absorption of calcium.
Remove stains and brighten teeth
If you are a lover of coffee, red wine or other such tooth-staining foods, they are likely to have dimmed your teeth. Mix a little baking soda with water and brush your teeth with this solution at least twice a month. After eating food that’s likely to stain your teeth such as coffee and blueberries, brush your teeth. Crunchy apples, pears, carrots and celery are foods that help you generate tooth-bathing saliva that makes teeth bright.
Medications for dry mouth
Saliva is very important to keep your mouth and teeth healthy. Antidepressants, high blood pressure drugs and antihistamines are medications that tend to give you a dry mouth. To combat this, make sure you up your fluid intake and ask your dentist for artificial saliva products. You can also chew sugarless gum after a meal.
