How to stay healthy while traveling
All of us enjoy traveling but its important to stay healthy as you do so. Whether it’s climbing a mountain top or surfing the sea, each holiday is different and comes with its set of health challenges. Here are some great tips to stay healthy while traveling.
Before you travel to a new place, do research about the place. Find out if there is any disease outbreak, check climatic conditions, whether the place prone to diseases caused by mosquitoes and so on. Also make sure you make proper provisions for your existing health conditions. For instance, if you have asthma, you might have to carry your inhaler. Find out how the climate is, for instance of it’s very hot, you may need to keep hydrating more and staying out of the sun when it’s at its peak.
Make sure you stay hydrated
Carry water wherever you go. This is very important to stay hydrated. When you find yourself in situations where it’s not possible to filter water or buy bottled water, use purification tablets.
Traveling can be quite harsh on your body. Make sure you get adequate sleep. For instance, if you go on a long walk, make sure you take rest for a few hours so that you can rejuvenate.
Before you head out for a day of travel, make sure that you also do a bit of stretching. Stretch your arms, legs, neck, shoulders, and back, spend a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes on this, this will make you feel refreshed.
Never skip breakfast thinking that you can go straight to lunch. You can even make your own breakfast by adding cereal to hot water.
Depending on the place you are visiting, wear sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage. Make sure that you apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before you go out in the sun. In case, the area you are visiting is likely to have insects and mosquitoes, apply insect repellent to protect yourself from getting bitten.
Carry a first aid kit
Make sure it contains essentials such as anti-diarrheal medication, antihistamine, anti-motion sickness medication, pain relievers, laxative, antacid, anti-bacterial ointment, hand sanitizer, band-aids and so on. Oral rehydration salts are a must, they help recovery from vomiting or dehydration.
