An imbalance of chemicals in your brain can lead to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Meds are widely administered for the case management of this condition. Such meds can bring about a significant change to your impulses by calming you down. Also, the essential substances enable you to focus better and stay with attention. Medications such as Adderall and Strattera are commonly used to treat conditions like ADHD. But, are there any differences between these two meds? It is a good practice to have additional data on these two meds.

Studies are still underway to know the top causes for the onset of ADHD. Of the various causes, genetic variables fare as a top reason in more than 70% of people with such developmental conditions. Moreover, women who consumed alcohol during pregnancy are more likely to deliver babies with this condition. In a few instances, exposure to perilous chemicals – viz., pesticides, phosphate and such derived chemicals, etc. – is associated to incidence of these disorders.

What is Adderall?

Adderall is a widely used drug for the case management and treatment of ADHD. As an added use, this med is taken to treat spells of narcolepsy i.e., sleepiness during the day. This med contains two (2) active chemicals, namely a- dextro-amphetamine and b- amphetamine. These work on your central nervous system (CNS) and exert needful control on impulsive actions as well as hyperactive tendencies.

You need to stay aware that Adderall can be habit forming, when taken for a longer timeframe. Owing to its addictive nature, the medication plan is administered strictly under the supervision of a qualified medical specialist. Also, if you have had prior spells of excessive use intoxicants or episodes of substance abuse, your treating doctor must be informed of such conditions.

What is Strattera?

This drug is also used for treating developmental conditions such as ADHD. It can halt fidgeting, inability to concentrate and difficulties to remain focused. In short, impulsive actions are stopped by restoration of select brain chemicals – known as neuro-transmitting substances.

Dosage plan of Strattera is based on the severity of your hyperactivity and restlessness. Typical dose is once or twice within a 24-hour timeline. The initial dosage is given when you wake up; the next dose is spaced out to the earlier part of evening. You need to stay aware that intake of Strattera at late hours can make you have sleep-related disorders such as insomnia.

What are the key differences between Adderall and Strattera?

Adderall is made of four (4) kinds of amphetamines namely, dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine sulfate, dextroamphetamine sulfate as well as amphetamine aspartate. On the other hand, Strattera has atomoxetine. However, the latter is not a stimulating med; hence Strattera is unlikely to be abused. It may not develop dependencies in you. Upon stopping your medication plan, Strattera is unlikely to start signs of withdrawal.

In general, Strattera is well-tolerated than its counterpart – Adderall. You also need to know that active substances present in Adderall extended release (marked with “XR”) can remain in your system for more than 10 hours.

If you are living in a state of depression (and currently consuming antidepressants), intake of Adderall or Strattera may aggravate your mental condition and may also lead to phobias. On sensing discomforts such as breathing difficulties, angina, increased sweating, viewing weird things (which are imaginary), etc. consult with your treating physician on an urgent mode.

People with ADHD who are residing in the US are recommended to dial 911. Canadian residents need to call Health Canada for needful medical support; people in Canada can also go to a poison control cell closer home on an emergency basis.
