Inner linings of your uterus can – at times – grow into other nearby sites. This growth triggers abnormal menstrual cycles. This is accompanied by pains and excessive bleeding. This condition is known as endometriosis. Endometriosis may occur when tissues identical to those lining your uterus grow outside. During periods, these tissues act similar to your normal uterine-tissues. But, at the end of periods, these tissues break and start bleeding. As this blood has no place to go, nearby sites get swollen. Most women may develop lesions in their uterine tract.
Endometriosis is of multiple types; it can be deeply-infiltrating or a superficial condition. In the former case, tissues attack organs outside and also within the pelvic-cavity. A key ingredient of norethindrone is a hormone called progestin. The chief function of this med is to signal changes in hormonal levels, and help have normal periods. Some people believe this med prevents miscarriage; there is no scientific evidence to this belief.

Norethindrone is taken strictly as per the instructions of your physicians. Typical dosage plan spans a week’s time; taken as single-dose each day. Your doctor will start dosages during the second-half of your ‘proposed’ menstrual period. Soon after you stop your medication plan, you tend to experience withdrawal effects for nearly 5 days.
One of the withdrawal effects experienced after stopping norethindrone is bleeding; it starts soon after dosages are discontinued. This is considered a common symptom of withdrawal. However, if bleeding persists for long, talk to your treating physician without any further delay.
Like other man-made progestin-based drugs triggers undesired side-effects. Commonly experienced adverse effects are mood shifts including depression, sleep-based disorders like insomnia, loss of scalp hair, inexplicable changes in body weight, abdominal problems like vomiting and nausea.

As an added precaution, inform your caregiver of hypersensitivity or allergies to progestin-based drugs such as norethindrone. If you have had a miscarriage in the recent past, episodes of blood clotting, cardiac failure, chronic hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) like bronchitis, asthma or bronchial asthma, your doctor needs to know of such ailments.
Norethindrone can cause drowsiness in users. Intake of alcohol while using this med can cause excessive levels of dizziness. You are hence advised to stay away from alcoholic drinks till your doctor tells you to refrain from drinking. If you have addiction issues or had been abusing substances like marijuana or cannabis, your doctor needs to be updated on all such habits.
