What is Eflornithine Cream 13.9%-15g used for?

Eflornithine Cream 13.9%-15g for topical use is prescribed to slow down the growth rate of unwanted facial hair in women. This cream is used to treat facial hirsutism (excessive hair growth), usually around the lips or under the chin, in women aged 12 years and older. This topical drug only “reduces” the unwanted facial hair and does not permanently remove the hair.

Eflornithine works by blocking a certain enzyme necessary for the growth of the hair. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Eflornithine Cream 13.9%-15g?

Like other medicines, Eflornithine Cream 13.9%-15g can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Eflornithine are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

It is pertinent to note that side effects of Eflornithine cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Eflornithine develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.

What is the recommended dosage of Eflornithine?

Apply a thin layer of Eflornithine cream around the affected areas of the face and chin, and rub in thoroughly. Wash your hands immediately after using the cream. Do not wash the treated areas for at least 4 hours after application. You should wait for at least 5 minutes after hair removal before applying the Eflornithine cream. You may apply cosmetics, sunscreens or moisturizers over the treated areas after the cream has dried completely.

What if you miss a dose of Eflornithine?

If your physician has instructed or directed you to apply Eflornithine medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.

What if you overdose on Eflornithine?

Any medication used in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Eflornithine, seek medical attention immediately.

What other drugs could interact with Eflornithine Cream 13.9%-15g?

There are no known interactions between Eflornithine Cream 13.9%-15g and other topical medicines. However, it is important to inform your doctor about the use of any other medications including non-prescription medications (over-the-counter products) and dietary supplements like vitamins, minerals and herbal, which may increase the effect of Eflornithine, so that the doctor can warn you of any possible drug interactions.
