What is Pefloxacin 400mg used for?

Pefloxacin 400mg is an anti-infective and antibacterial drug used to treat severe bacterial infections. Pefloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibacterials.

Pefloxacin tablets

Pefloxacin tablets are used to treat bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal system, genitourinary tract infections and uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis in males.

Pefloxacin tablets may also be prescribed for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, abdominal infections, renal infections, and lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

Pefloxacin eye drops

Pefloxacin eye drops is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis, dacryocystitis, keratoconjunctivitis, trachoma, blepharoconjunctivitis and meibomianitis.Pefloxacin eye drops is also used before and after ocular surgery.

Pefloxacin may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

What is the recommended dosage of Pefloxacin?

The dosage of Pefloxacin prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

Pefloxacin tablets should be taken with food.

What if you miss a dose of Pefloxacin?

If your physician has instructed or directed you to use Pefloxacin medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses to catch up for the missed dose.

What if you overdose on Pefloxacin?

Any medication used in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Pefloxacin, seek medical attention immediately.

What other drugs could interact with Pefloxacin 400mg?

It may be noted that drugs other than those listed above may also interact with Pefloxacin tablets.

Pefloxacin tablets can interact with the following types of medicines: antacids, iron supplements, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and oral hypoglycemic drugs.

There are no known interactions between Pefloxacin eye drops and other medicines.

Usually drug interactions occur when it is used with another drug or with food. Before you use a medication for a particular ailment, you should inform the health expert about intake of any other medications including non-prescription medications (over-the-counter products) and dietary supplements like vitamins, minerals and herbal, which may increase the effect of Pefloxacin, so that the doctor can warn you of any possible drug interactions.

Do let your doctor know if you smoke, consume alcohol or caffeinated drinks, or use illegal drugs as these may interfere with the action of your medication. Make sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions you may have, or any family history of medical problems. Do not start or stop using any medicine without consulting your doctor.

What are the side effects of Pefloxacin 400mg?

Like other medicines, Pefloxacin 400mg can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Pefloxacin are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

Pefloxacin tablets can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, muscular pain, photosensitivity, confusion and insomnia.

Pefloxacin eye drops can cause side effects such as burning, itching, swelling, irritation, redness, blurred vision and bitter taste.
