What is Rizatriptan used for?

Rizatriptan is prescribed for the treatment of an acute migraine attack with or without aura. It works by reducing the swelling of blood vessels around the brain. This medicine helps relieve migraine symptoms such as headaches, pain, sensitivity to light/sound, nausea, and vomiting. It belongs to a group of drugs called triptans. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

What is the recommended dosage of Rizatriptan?

The dosage of Rizatriptan prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

Rizatriptan may be taken on an empty stomach.

What if you miss a dose of Rizatriptan?

Rizatriptan should be taken only during a migraine attack. This medicine should not be taken on a regular basis.

What if you overdose on Rizatriptan?

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Rizatriptan, seek medical attention immediately.

What other drugs could interact with Rizatriptan?

Like other medicines, Rizatriptan can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Rizatriptan are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

It is pertinent to note that side effects of Rizatriptan cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Rizatriptan develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.

Rizatriptan can cause side effects such as weakness, diarrhea, drowsiness, redness, dry mouth, and prickling/tingling sensation. This is not a complete list of all side effects. Do concur with your doctor and follow his directions completely when you are taking Rizatriptan.
