What is Sumatriptan used for?

Sumatriptan is prescribed for the treatment of an acute migraine attack with or without aura. It works by reducing the swelling of blood vessels around the brain. This medicine helps relieve migraine symptoms such as headaches, pain, sensitivity to light/sound, nausea, and vomiting. It belongs to a group of drugs called triptans. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Sumatriptan?

Like other medicines, Sumatriptan can cause some side effects. If they do occur, the side effects of Sumatriptan are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and may require the individual to inform the doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

It is pertinent to note that side effects of Sumatriptan cannot be anticipated. If any side effects of Sumatriptan develop or change in intensity, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible.
